Williamsons Solicitors family lawA solicitor with more than 30 years’ experience in family law has joined Williamsons Solicitors’ Bridlington offices.

Phil Jones has practised family law in Bridlington for the majority of his professional career and says his new role at Williamsons is a chance to continue a life-long commitment to defending the rights of children in care proceedings.

“One of the really good things about this aspect of family law is that you get the opportunity to do the right thing for the children,” said Mr Jones, who has two grown-up children of his own, and four grandchildren.

“I like to think that I can make a genuine difference every time I go to court and work on the basis that ‘a good result for the kids is a good result for everyone’.”

With a law degree from the University of Southampton and articles at a firm in Liverpool, he joined Thorpe & Co in Scarborough in 1976, first as an assistant solicitor and then as a partner. Mr Jones ran, and eventually bought out, that firm’s Bridlington office and in 2004 he joined Brooke Williams, which closed its office in Bridlington this May.

The 62-year-old, who is on the Family Law Advanced Accreditation Scheme, joins a growing team at Williamsons Solicitors’ in Bridlington and will be working directly alongside Rebecca Lovel, another family and childcare specialist.

“He is also a very well known and respected figure in the local legal community and is a great addition to our Bridlington practice, where he will be able to call on the resources of our Driffield and Hull branches.”
